About
A clean, uncrowded beach south of the steel plant, with a hillock and an ancient Someswara temple.
Appikonda is a fishing village on the southern coast of Visakhapatnam, near the steel plant. Its beach is one of the least crowded in the region: a clean sweep of sand with a rocky hillock rising out of the sea at one end.
The village is known for the Someswara Swamy Temple, an old stone temple protected by the Archaeological Survey of India, with weathered carvings and a large Shiva lingam. A small temple also sits on top of the hillock by the beach, reached by crossing a canal and climbing.
There are no shops or facilities on the sand, so bring what you need. Sunrise and sunset are both lovely here, but the waves are strong and swimming is unsafe.
