About
Maritime and history museum with naval guns, a PNS Ghazi relic and ancient sculptures.
The Visakha Museum on Beach Road tells the story of the city and its sea. Its maritime gallery and grounds are filled with naval hardware: anti-aircraft guns, a ship’s gun turret, anchors, a target drone and scale models of Indian Navy and Coast Guard ships.
One of its most striking exhibits is a damaged section of the Pakistani submarine PNS Ghazi, sunk off Visakhapatnam in the 1971 war. Other galleries display busts of naval figures, old cameras and instruments, and stone sculptures and hero stones from the region dating back to the 12th century.
It is compact, inexpensive and a good introduction to Vizag’s naval and regional history.
