About
One of India’s larger zoos, set in forested hills between the highway and the sea.
The Indira Gandhi Zoological Park spreads over more than 600 acres of forested hills between the national highway and Beach Road. It is one of the larger zoos in India and a favourite family day out.
Around 80 species are kept in large enclosures that follow the natural terrain: big cats, elephants, bears, crocodiles and gharials, deer and many birds. A walk-through butterfly park is a highlight for children.
The full circuit is long, so battery vehicles are available. Animals are most active in the first hours after opening.
