Three Old Town hills with a church, a dargah and a temple — and the best views of the harbour.
In Old Town, three neighbouring hills each carry a place of worship: Ross Hill with its Catholic church of Our Lady, Dargah Konda with the shrine of Ishaq Madina, and Sri Venkateswara Konda with its temple. Together they are a much-loved symbol of the city’s religious harmony.
The Ross Hill church, established in the 1860s, is reached by a long flight of steps. From the top you look straight down onto the inner harbour, with ships, tugs and naval vessels moving through the channel, and across to Dolphin’s Nose.
The Venkateswara temple on the next hill has its own gopuram and steps, and the dargah draws pilgrims of all faiths. A walk between them, ideally in the late afternoon, is one of the best ways to see Old Town.
